Dalzell Creative Group

Dalzell Creative Group evolved out of Dalzell Productions, one of New York’s top live event practices, and is now a collective of creative strategic thinkers in the service of innovative real estate and open space planning, focusing on how to create new business models using creative industries through special events, cultural programming and public-private partnerships.

Beginning in 2001 Dalzell produced experiences for Ernst & Young and Cap Gemini, through Accelerated Solutions Environments and Idea Labs. Since then a number of experiences involving field- and thought-leaders became hallmarks of the Dalzell Productions portfolio, including 2007’s Pangaea Day with TED and the development and production of 2010 and 2011’s Municipal Art Society’s Summit for New York City and 2010’s New Museum Festival of Ideas main stage.

As inaugural producers of all Special Events for Tribeca Film Festival from 2002 through 2009, Dalzell worked to weave community goals, public-private location and funding partnerships and innovative programming into a series of New York mega-events. Collaborations with Brookfield Properties, the Durst Organization and Two Trees followed, through the re-imagination of the Dumbo Arts Festival  and its integration with the resurgence of Downtown Brooklyn and the Barclays Center in 2012.

In 2009 Hudson Yards Development Corporation and the partners of Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Rockwell Group tapped Dalzell to study the opportunities private events can bring to new development, and since then the direct partnership with Culture Shed has grown to include research, models and presentation on multiple fronts: international program calendars, studies in comparable local and national space use, valuation of commercial and non-profit programming models, and considerations for a functioning and sustainable exhibit and production operation, as the concept of Culture Shed becomes the reality of the Culture Shed Organization in collaboration with Beckelman-Capalino and Bloomberg leadership.

KAREN DALZELL Executive Producer/President is a risk-taking visionary who has blurred boundaries of performance, business, art and technology since her very first exposure to the performing arts early in her career. Karen’s career began with producing the Ottawa International Jazz Festival at the age of 23. Karen relocated to NY in 1993 to join the avant-garde theater scene, as a producer for the award-winning En Garde Arts theater company and as President of the Board at the prestigious Brooklyn gallery and performance space, GAle GAtes.  Karen started Dalzell Productions in 2000 when her experience as a producer demanded horizons beyond off-off-broadway theater.   As the firm’s producing portfolio grew and her vision broadened, Karen began DalzellGreen,  a pioneering extension into sustainable environmental practices and event design innovation. She is currently spearheading the firm’s business development and cultural programming initiatives, consulting on development of the growing Dumbo Arts Festival in partnership with Two Trees, and a variety of projects with The Durst Organization, as well contributing to the process of envisioning the Culture Shed’s programming potential. Dalzell is chosen when vision or even creative disruptive innovation is wanted—not an as-usual approach.  Her particular skill is to combine creative, artistic production with new and inventive business models that provide a solid, sustainable basis for continuing, open innovation.

FRANK RILEY Sr. Producer/Vice President Frank Riley is a jack of many trades and leads Dalzell’s award-winning design and production teams. He is a film and television veteran with experience at the Cannes Film Festival, MTV News and Docs, and a number of independent projects. As a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, its School of Journalism and an MBA from its Stern School of Business, he is also a true student of New York and its environs.

Frank  heads the firm’s marketing consulting and new media projects, and in addition to working as the Executive Producer of Dumbo Arts Festival, he has also produced several recent public art and performance projects, including Esterio Seguro’s Goodbye My Love in collaboration with Times Square Alliance, Rockefeller Brothers, and the Cuban Artist Fund (on display now at Anita’s Way, One Bryant Park) and the upcoming multi-disciplinary experimental performance experience, chashama’s Annual Gala.
